Typical current-sensing resistors from mainland China suppliers have ±1 percent minimum tolerance and shunt variants ±0.5 percent.
Mainland China makers of current-sensing and shunt resistors highlight enhanced precision and reliability. They offer the former with a typical tolerance of ±1 percent, although there are also units with as low as ±0.01 percent. Releases come in thin- and thick-film, metal and metal-foil types for use in mobile electronics, power supplies, computers and automotive applications.
The shunt subcategory, which is mainly for precision instruments, includes 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20 and 50mohm variants with ±0.5, ±15, ±2 or ±5 percent tolerance. Models with higher precision or those with ±0.01, ±0.05, ±0.25 and ±0.1 percent tolerance are also available.
Local suppliers stress low temperature coefficient as well. Turning out more SMD units, specifically in 0201 to 0805 sizes, is also an objective.
Passive components specialist Viking of Taiwan has introduced such products. Its thick-film current-sensing resistors with 1mohm to 10ohm resistance have 100ppm/C TCR. These come in 0201 to 7520, and are widely used in switching power supplies, voltage-regulating modules, DC-DC converters and power management applications.
Mainland companies obtain ceramic, nickel, tin and copper locally, turning to foreign providers only on request. Material costs did not change much last year and kept resistor prices flat. The same trends are expected in the next one or two years.
The products in this gallery have been handpicked by our market analyst for representing current trends in current-sensing and shunt resistors from mainland China and Taiwan makers.
