Use of organic and recycled fabrics and nontoxic dyes is highlighted in this selection of comfortable and easy-to-wear dresses.
India's manufacturing industry for sundresses pitches in for the environment, adopting not only natural and recycled textiles but also azo-free dyes. Widely used is 100 percent organic cotton, while there are models made from silk with polyester and others from recycled natural rayon. These come in jacquard, cambric and viscose weaves.
Typical in this line are a fitted bodice, while there are also sundresses with a fitted bustline with a simple band or drawstring. Both styles come with straight, loose, flared or umbrella skirts. Tent or A-line types are also available. Necklines vary, with options such as V-neck, round and curved. Spaghetti straps are common, with slightly wider strips and halters also used. Hemlines may be straight, frilled, in handkerchief or with bias binding.
Most have tie-dyed patterns, some done by hand. Azo-free dyes are usually employed.
Embellishments come in the form of machine- or hand-embroidered patterns, edge embroidery, lace and beads.
