Makers of TFT-LCD modules highlight the advantages of IPS technology to keep line competitive against AMOLED displays.
TFT-LCD modules will still lead the shipments of displays from China makers due to the AMOLED rival's comparatively low yield and high cost. To enhance their selections, companies continue to develop high-definition models and will increasingly adopt IPS technology to realize vivid colors, quick response time, wide viewing angle and low power consumption.
Mainstream products come in resolutions of 320x240, 480x320, 800x480, 1024x600, 1280x720 and 1920x1200 dots, and have contrast ratio of more than 500:1 and life span exceeding 300,000 hours.
Units with 10.4in screens and below make up the majority of the country's total shipments. These are widely used in smartphones, tablet PCs, laptops and smart home systems. Those with larger displays are mainly for computers and TVs.
TFT-LCD and touch panels, PCBs and frames are the key components. Suppliers source the first from local providers such as BOE, Tianma, CSOT, Infovision and CEC-Panda or foreign companies, including LG Display, Samsung, AUO, Innolux, CPT and Toshiba.
The cost of TFT-LCD panels dropped in the previous year, prompting a decrease in prices by 5 to 10 percent. In the months ahead, input costs and product quotes are expected to stabilize.
