Tableware suppliers are releasing plates, bowls, trays and teapots in the shape of leaves, seashells and other objects in nature.
Indonesia tableware suppliers are enhancing product aesthetics to reach more buyers abroad. In line with this effort, companies are releasing novelty-shaped dinnerware and serveware in addition to regular round, oval, square and rectangular designs.
Many makers are turning to nature for inspiration. The latest releases include plates, bowls and trays in the shape of leaves, fishes, vegetables and fruits.
Istana Potterindo Industri, a supplier based in East Java, is among those offering ceramic tableware with nature-inspired motifs. Its Celadon collection, for example, includes fish-shaped plates, soup bowls and teapots. The company’s Shell collection, meanwhile, comprises seashell-shaped salt- and pepper shakers, soup bowls, plates and tea sets. Tea sets featuring pots and cups shaped like coconuts and tree trunks are also among Istana Potterindo’s products.
PT Caspla Bali offers leaf-shaped plates with seashell inlay. The company’s products also include irregularly shaped bowls and trays.
Suppliers are using domestically available materials to produce unique pieces. Clay, bamboo, rattan and seashells are among the manufacturing inputs adopted by makers.
Clay is sourced from various parts of Indonesia, including the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Bangka, Belitung and Nusa Tenggara. The provinces of West Java, Central Java and East Java are the key sources of bamboo, while rattan is procured from the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan and the provinces of West Java, East Java, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua. Seashells are acquired mostly from the islands of Java and Bali.
