Although China makers turn out high-frequency transformers based on flat cores, they are eyeing next releases in chip and film forms, and considering the use of nanocrystalline materials.

Making transformers even smaller is still the R&D priority for high-frequency applications in China. This is while suppliers continue to boost product performance.

Flat-core variants are still popular in the local market, so manufacturers keep working on new models. Dongguan Benc has released a patented ultrasmall unit with 1kHz to 1MHz frequency range and 10W to 10kW rated power. In the years to come, chip and film types will gain attention in the domestic manufacturing sector.

Further down the line, there is the possible switch from conventional to nanocrystalline materials. Presented as the optimal alternative, the latter combines the advantages of silicon steel, permalloy and ferrite. It has high saturation induction, permeability, efficiency and temperature stability, and will ensure low core loss. The input is predicted to be adopted initially in midrange and upscale high-frequency transformers.

The mainstream lineup in China is categorized by frequency range, with 20 to 50kHz, 50 to 200kHz, 200kHz to 1MHz and exceeding 1MHz as options. The first leads output and is mainly for switching power supplies.

Products use cores in EI, EE, EC, U and UF types, and have 1,000 or 10,000kVA rated power, 400V/200V voltage ratio, 95 percent efficiency, and EMI and EMC protection. Most companies ensure releases meet CE, RoHS and UL requirements.

The key components and materials include ferrite cores, coils, bobbins, copper foil tapes, wires and glue, and come from local or foreign providers. Input cost is expected to remain stable and keep prices unchanged in the months ahead.

The products in this gallery have been handpicked by our China-based market analyst for representing current trends in high-frequency transformers from China makers.
