Models have covers, pages, and floral and animal adornments, which are crafted and assembled by hand.

In an effort to stand out from international competitors, India manufacturers of photo albums have released models featuring covers and inside pages made of handcrafted paper and recycled materials.

Most covers have cardboard frames wrapped with handmade textured paper. Some variations, including two albums featured in this gallery, use silk sari scraps, which add a distinctly local appeal.

In terms of design, nature motifs, particularly those that display floral and animal prints, are popular. One featured model's cover is adorned with dried flowers, which are secured in place with a transparent film. Tribal art is also common.

Inside pages, meanwhile, often use white mill paper, which are made by recycling wood pulp and other scrap materials. Most albums use banana leaves as separators between sheets.

Price is $4 to $5.

Silk sari cover

The hard cover of the Green 10 x 12 INC model from New Era Overseas is wrapped with a silk sari with green and gold floral patterns. The handmade photo album contains 25 inside pages made of white mill paper and is fastened by a thick brown thread. It measures 26x33cm and can hold 300 4x6in pictures. A black velvet cardboard box is used for packaging. The minimum order required is 100 pieces, each offered at $9.

New Era Overseas also offers the Red 10 x 12 INC model, which is a red hardbound photo album covered with a floral-printed silk sari. The 50 inside pages are handmade from white mill paper and can store 200 5x7in pictures. The product measures 26x33cm and comes packed in a black velvet cardboard box. MOQ is 100 pieces. Price is $5.

The RECFHPA43001 model from Ravi Exports is purely handmade, including the cardboard cover, dried flower adornments and 20 inside pages. The photo album measures 24x30cm and holds two 4x6in pictures per page. Parchment paper is used to separate each sheet. The supplier requires a minimum order of 100 pieces. Price is $5.50.

Tribal art

The Giving Tree's TGT_LARGE model has a handmade paper cover featuring tribal designs on the borders. It is comprised of 20 250gsm black leaves separated by 20 sheets of banana fibers. Measuring 10.25x10.25in, the metal wire-bound photo album can hold a 6x4in picture on each page. Various colors and designs are available. The supplier requires a minimum order of 100 pieces.
