Chinese manufacturers of microspeakers continue to target mobile and wearable electronics, and automotive applications.

More manufacturers of microspeakers in the Chinese mainland are releasing compact and ultrathin configurations designed for surface mounting as the trend for miniaturization in the electronics and automotive industries persists.

With units in SMD packages up to 2mm in thickness available on the market, Chinese companies are keeping up, shrinking component sizes further. Shenzhen HongSound Electronic Technology Co. Ltd offers IPX8-rated 15x11mm microspeakers that are as thin as 2.8mm. These acoustic products have 1W rated and 1.5W maximum power, and suit mobile phones, GPS devices, wearables and laptops.

Microspeakers in round, square and rectangular versions are widely available for use in smartphones, tablet and notebook PCs, wearable devices and in-vehicle applications. Their typical specifications are 0.1 to 5W rated power, 70 to 120dB sound pressure level and 0 to 20kHz frequency range. Water-resistant versions are also available. These products, as a rule, comply with RoHS requirements.

Chinese suppliers source magnets, voice coils, diaphragms, baskets and glue from domestic and foreign providers as required. Most increased product prices between five and 10 percent due to higher input and labor costs last year. In the months ahead, costs are not likely to change and are expected to stabilize quotes.
