Units adopting One Glass Solution continue to dominate capacitive touch panel output in China, but more on-cell, in-cell and flexible releases will still be the future target.

The strong trend for ultrathin and lightweight portable electronics has led manufacturers of capacitive touch panels in China to adopt the same in R&D and production.

On-cell and in-cell technologies for midrange and high-end applications are particularly hot, while there is an emerging demand for flexible types. All are being pursued by midsize and large suppliers there.

One of the major local companies in the line, Shenzhen Laibao introduced flexible variants in early 2019 and has started mass production later that year. It is the first in the country to have realized high-volume manufacture of on-cell panels in 2017.

Due to the higher technology and quality requirement in advanced types, capacitive touch panels based on One Glass Solution still make up the mainstream selection in China. These feature 3ms response time, 99 percent accuracy, multitouch capability and up to 7H hardness. The products come in small, medium and large variants, with the first two accounting for the bulk of shipments.

Most makers accept customization, which represents 60 percent of the domestic industry's output.

Main components and materials such as ITO electrodes, substrates and cover lenses are usually sourced from the local market. Companies turn to foreign providers only as required. Input costs and product prices did not change much in the past year, although some makers lowered their quotes to counter intense competition. The generally stable trend is expected to last throughout 2020.
