South Korea suppliers offer various software and hardware options, and combine products and services.

As accessibility to core technology is leveling the playing field for IP camera manufacture and as market growth slows, South Korea suppliers are taking diverse approaches to keep the line afloat. They continue to leverage competence in hardware and software development but are now looking for niches where they can stand out.

Makers are aiming for the midrange market to avoid competing with China rivals dominating the entry-level segment, and Germany and US counterparts in the high end.

Dongyang Unitech Co. Ltd has been in the CCTV business for almost two decades, and boasts a range of cameras, network video recorders for IP cameras, and network-attached storage devices. It capitalizes on this one-stop advantage and added customization capability for the mostly project-based requirements in the midrange and high-end segments. The supplier is working on incorporating video analytics as well.

Cynix Inc. is diversifying its IP camera market, veering away from the mainstream CCTV sector. It concentrates on segments such as traffic control by adding vehicle registration plate recognition, and police security equipment that includes body cameras. The company, which has Japan as main market, emphasizes in-house development capability.

Best Digital Inc. has ventured into software development, and came up with object recognition program that uses IP cameras for dimming LED lighting in places such as parking lots.

There are approximately 50 makers of IP cameras in South Korea, but only about 10 are dedicated to the line.

The products in this gallery have been handpicked by our South Korea-based market analyst for representing current trends in IP cameras.
