Startup Launchpad, drone-racing and experience zones are a few of the come-ons of the fall-2016 edition of the world's largest electronics sourcing show.

The flagship trade show of Global Sources, Global Sources Electronics opened today packed with unique experience and demo zones, pavilions and conferences that give an insight into rapidly accelerating innovation and technologies from China and across Asia.

At the Startup Launchpad, 150 emerging hardware startups showcased their latest tech products. Integrated within both phases of Global Sources Electronics, Startup Launchpad will showcase at the pavilion the latest from 16 categories, including sound and visual, fitness and health, IoT solutions, drones and robotics, and VR and AR. The conference program, meanwhile, will run eight days.

The fall edition also saw the launch of the Hong Kong Drone Racing Championships, the first-ever professional indoor drone race to be held at a B2B trade show. The race was organized by Global Sources, HKFPVR and Rotor-X, and endorsed by the Drone Sports Association.

Other show highlights include the first Outdoor Electronics Pavilion, the only one of its kind in Asia, plus the VR & Gaming Experience Zone and Next-Gen Components Zone.

Hot-topic conferences focus on electronic personal transporters, VR, smart home and the startup life cycle.

Global Sources Electronics is the world's largest electronics sourcing show. The first phase will run until Oct. 14. It has 3,500 booths and focuses on consumer electronics, security products and electronic components. The second phase, Mobile Electronics, will run from Oct. 18 to 21, showcasing the latest smartphones, tablets, wearable devices and mobile accessories. Both phases will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong.

More than 60,000 buyers from 150 countries and territories are expected to attend. Expected visitors include purchasing decision makers from Acer, Amazon, Best Buy, Brookstone, Canon, Dolby, eBay, El Corte Ingles, Foxconn, Groupe Auchan, Hitachi, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Kesa Electricals, Logicom, Metro,NTT Docomo, Office Depot, Panasonic, Qualcomm, RadioShack, Samsung, Sony, Target, Tesco, Unilever, Woolworths and Yamaha.
