Led by outdoor rattan furniture sets, seven newcomers joined GlobalSources.com's top 20 home products in August 2014.

The category landed eighth after the number of requests for information was tallied, the second-highest position to be occupied by the new entrants. Among the first-timers, only flatware received more RFIs than outdoor rattan furniture sets. The latter, however, performed better growthwise, delivering a 1,183 percent increase in on-month inquiries. This is the biggest jump to be registered in the entire August 2014 listing.

From an annual perspective, outdoor rattan furniture sets RFIs rose 167 percent, with water- and UV-resistant, and easy-to-maintain models spurring interest in the line. Products range from sofa and daybed sets to dining and bistro sets, and come in different types of rattan weaves.

Still comparing the YoY performance of the top 20 home products, the highest growth rate belongs to ceramic knives at 407 percent. A year ago, the category was not even in the list.

In addition, ceramic knives gained 62 percent in monthly RFIs. It ranked 12th in terms of actual number of inquiries, up seven spots from July 2014. Driving orders are innovations in ergonomics and durability.
