Garden tools may look plain despite being ergonomic and durable but this won’t be the case soon. A designer, HaYoung Lee, has just made the common garden tool innovative and eye-catching.

Lee’s garden tool designs, three new hand shovels, are inspired by Hyundai’s car grilles. One design has a number of gratings and can be used as a rake, while another has one big gap that grips the plant by the body or root-soil system when transported. The third does not have a grille but is a wide scoop for carrying more soil. Designs look sleek as real car grilles.

What’s equally attention-grabbing about the designs is that they have unlockable handles that can be pushed inward. Transformed into compact tools, the shovels can be hung on walls via its string attachments. They can blend into modern interior design. The handles are thick enough for a stable grip.

Other garden shovel or trowel designs emerging are also becoming more functional and visually pleasing. Some trowels have lids and feature colorful prints.
