The total number of installed global law enforcement and body cameras worldwide has surpassed 1.5 million, an increase of nearly 30 percent this year, says a new report by IHS Markit.

The study mentions that body camera shipments are growing in the US due to funding for these products. More body cameras are also being used thanks to advancements in digital evidence-management software. With technologies emerging, it is getting easier to store video footage and evidence for law enforcement, and this makes body cameras more in-demand.

Body cameras are not only improving in the US. In China, body cameras are now equipped with better night vision, detecting faces in total darkness or more than 10m. A number of units work longer than 10 hours and come in an easier-to-conceal form or size. Some China-made body cameras boast improved GPS or Wi-Fi features and are able to connect to mobile devices. HD cameras with big touchscreens and deliver HD are going mainstream.

The future is indeed looking good for body cameras. Another market research provider, Market Research Future says that the body camera market is expected to grow to $990 million by 2023. Given these positive predictions, importers can source more body cameras and see good sales in coming years.
