The deal could value the latter at around $1 billion.

Private equity firm Kelso & Co. is in negotiation to acquire Wisconsin-based US LBM Holdings LLC at around $1 billion, according to a report by Reuters.

Reuter's sources, who have refused to be named, stated that the private equity firm outbid other companies in the auction for the building materials and hardware supplier. BlackEagle Partners, the firm that currently owns US LBM, is still discerning whether to sell to company to another bidder or to maintain it if the current negotiations would not push through. No official statements have been released by Kelso and US LBM yet.

US LBM supplies lumber and other building materials in more than 21 US states.
