Switches used in mechanical keyboards must be robust to withstand the wear and tear of typical use. Such keyboards, after all, are particularly popular with gamers for the more tactile experience they provide.

For buyers sourcing keyboard switches, the mainstream ones available in China usually have a life span of more than 1 million keystrokes. Types that can last for 100 million presses can also be found. They come in various specifications, with rated voltage options of 3, 5, 12 and 24V, current rating ranging from 10mA to 1A and insulation resistance of over 10Mohms. The target markets are consumer electronics and industrial applications.

Chinese manufacturers accommodate customization requests, including in color and size as well as the addition of a logo. They make sure products are reliable, can last long and pass CE and UL standards of safety and quality. In addition, companies use materials and components that are RoHS-compliant.

The main inputs used in the production of keyboard switches include copper alloy, gold, silver, stainless steel and thermoplastic. They are sourced from domestic or foreign providers, depending on buyers’ preferences.

The cost of copper fluctuated slightly in the past 12 months, but most Chinese companies kept their prices unchanged. Those who raised their quotes did so by 5 to 10 percent. Suppliers interviewed by Global Sources are projecting stable costs and prices in the next six months.
