When wireless earbuds made a big market debut, the first thing that many thought is that without the cords and just the tip they are prone to get misplaced or lost. Although consumers have learned to just get by it, solutions have come up. Those include tracker apps, such as one for iOS10.3 that locates missing AirPods on a map, and recently, modifications in design. One noteworthy new solution is to make earring-style wireless earbuds.
The revolutionary wireless earphones, Swings by US-based Scandi Electronics, come in sleek or crystal-covered white-gold, -silver or -rose gold that suit casual and formalwear, and sweat-resistant black versions for sporty getups.
To use the wireless earbuds, the owner must wear them like ordinary earrings dangling from the earlobes then swing the tips up facing the ear canal. With Bluetooth 5.0 and touch sensors, the earring earbuds stream and auto-play music from Android and iOS devices when put on. They can also transmit wake-up alarms, and sounds can only be heard by the wearer. The earphones are also said to be Alexa-, Siri- and Google-compatible.
Swings is in its early funding stages in Kickstarter, with nearly 40 days to go at the time of this writing. While the wireless earbuds are clearly made for women and we all have yet to see its potential in the market, it is interesting how they will inspire wireless earphone design for men or in general. Will the wireless earphones of the future have comfy earlobe clips or something similar to prevent them from falling off easily? Maybe yes, and that’s what this innovation shows.
