Old-fashioned wooden toys make a comeback

TDmonthly Magazine identifies wooden toy sets most wanted by children and adults.

As part of its Top-10 Most-Wanted segment, TDmonthly Magazine reveals the best-selling wooden toys based on recent surveys conducted with retailers. The list includes:

Hape's Mighty Mini Band is reported to be one of the company's best-selling toys of all time. Fixed on a crescent wooden table, the 5-in-1 percussion set consists of a drum, xylophone, clapper, guiro, cymbal and drumsticks. It is suitable for children 2 years old and up.

Wooden vehicle toys are also popular and revamped to have modern features. For instance, the sound puzzle from Melissa and Doug features a wholly wooden board with niches, which, when a puzzle piece is correctly inserted, will emit the sound that the transportation unit is most associated with.

Free assembly models allow players to construct toys according to their preferences. The Brio Farm Railway Set from Schylling and the Wooden Railway Set from Thomas & Friends consist of railway pieces that encourage the user to build their own train tracks. Special elements such as barns, wagons, farm animals, bridges and tunnels come with the pack.

Smart and ride-on wooden toys are also available.
