Used as an alternative to chlorine for disinfecting, purifying and removing color from water, ozone generators are expected to experience market growth in the coming years. The category reached $1.1 billion in 2021 and is projected to increase to $1.5 billion by 2026, or at 6.2 percent CAGR during the period, according to MarketsandMarkets. The other applications covered in the report are air purification, pulp bleaching, organic synthesis, aquaculture, food processing, surface treatment and medical and aesthetics.
China is the largest producer, with about 35 percent share, according to the latest report by Industry Research Biz. Per Cninfo, a specialized market research portal in China, the country’s ozone generator segment was $2.38 billion in 2018 and will rise to $5.12 billion by 2025, a much higher valuation and projection than most published reports.
Available in mainstream supply in China are ozone generators with 110 to 220V rated voltage, 50 or 60Hz frequency system, 100 to over 1,000Hz operating frequency and 80 to 240W power consumption. Based on dielectric materials used, there are units that have a quartz, ceramic or glass tube or an enamel pipe. Devices with glass and ceramic tubes currently dominate shipments, according to suppliers interviewed by Global Sources. Variants with an enamel pipe are expected to become more popular in the near future.
Chinese manufacturers ensure their products comply with GB standards, as well as with UL, CE, CB, CSA, EMC, EMF, ETL, GS, LFGB, SASO and RoHS. They usually use materials from domestic sources.
Ozone generator prices have remained stable thanks to a similar trend in material costs. This is expected to hold until the end of 2023.
