The continued popularity of selfies and the emergence of strobing as a key makeup trend are fuelling the growth of the UK prestige makeup market, a recent study by market intelligence firm NPD Group revealed.
According to the report, sales from the line reached £390 million from January to August 2015, representing an increase of 14.3 percent YoY. All three core segments of the makeup category, namely face, eye and lip, posted double-digit gains during the period. Face and eye makeup generated £206 million and £101 million, respectively, rising 17 and 13 percent. Lip versions raked in £54 million, a 16 percent jump from the same period last year. Highlighters, a key component of the strobing trend, meanwhile, posted an almost 50 percent ascent in year-on-year revenue.
In the first three quarters of 2015, the UK's prestige beauty market generated £1.2 billion, a growth of 6.4 percent YoY. Makeup accounted for about a third of overall market. The category has posted a 3.2 percent growth in sales during the period.
