Suppliers of fiber-optic cables in China will continue to capitalize on this technology’s advantages over copper such as higher bandwidth capacity, lower attenuation and longer transmission distance and EMI immunity.
They offer single- and multimode types to meet various application requirements. These cables are based on G.652, G.655, G657, A1a or A1b fibers and have fiber counts ranging from 12 to 144, while PVC, PE, TPU and LSZH are the usual options in sheath materials. These cables have an operating temperature of -40 to 70 C and are resistant to corrosion, wear, water, fire, and ant and rat bites.
Some Chinese manufacturers use special materials to improve cable durability further. Longyou Neetuo Communication Technology Co. Ltd, for instance, adds gel to the tube to protect the fibers and aramid yarn from DuPont as filling compound. It utilizes fiber-reinforced plastic for the central strength members.

So far, the cost of these inputs has been relatively stable and is expected to remain so, ruling out increases in cable prices.
