Creativity makes a cheerful home this summer 2017, according to Forbes, which has released its top furniture and house decor picks for this season.
Bold and bright colors are always on trend, as playful tones and prints give the home a fun and whimsical atmosphere. For inspiration, Forbes points to designer Jaime Hayon, whose Vista Alegre collection of porcelain tableware displaying intricate animal, plant, mask, Portuguese folklore and cosmo prints serves as elegant set pieces and conversation-starters.
Lights have also been upgraded to be more aesthetically pleasing, featuring different sizes and shapes, and utilizing transparent to opaline glass. Most models are adopting a natural feel and materials, opting for pendant designs that allow the lights to hang loosely from ceilings or walls, instead of being built in. Lamps, on the other hand, incorporate bigger and bolder prints with contrasting colors in both shade and base.
Regarding furniture, pieces strike a balance between elegance and functionality. Models that are small and portable, or those built to save space have become particularly popular recently. For example, sectional sofas, ottomans, and one- or two-seaters allow homeowners more freedom for creative decorating without the troubles that come with limited space.
Some pieces are also simple yet multifunctional, such as Menu's Cage table that has criss-cross legs, allowing additional storage for books, magazines or blankets. In recent times, furniture makers have also become inventive in terms of the design of their furniture such as this stackable rattan sofa set that resembles a capsule and this foldable chair made entirely of paper.
