Chip inductors have a big market, driven by the miniaturization trend in electronics especially 5G communication, vehicle electrification, Internet of Things, AI and robotics. These passive components accounted for more than half of the market for inductors, which reached $5.27 billion in 2024 in China, according to the Qianzhan Industrial Research Institute. This will likely be the scenario when the value hits $8.37 billion in 2027.
In China, wirewound, multilayer and thin-film chip inductors are available, with the first two types accounting for most shipments. Based on package size, the typical choices are 0402, 0603, 0804 and 1210, while top companies continue to develop 008004 and 01005 versions. Shenzhen Sunlord has emphasized 008004 units to benefit from demand in smartphones, wearables and 5G communication devices. The company, which ranks first in China and third worldwide in terms of market share, realized a total sales value of $819 million in 2024 or 16.99 percent growth from the previous year.
Chinese manufacturers usually use ferrite, ceramic, metal alloy, epoxy, copper and silver from domestic sources. The cost of these materials rose slightly in the past 12 months, forcing makers to raise the prices of chip inductors by 5 to 10 percent to keep up with high demand. In the coming months, this may stabilize and keep product quotes flat.
