Soaps, whether in solid or liquid form, work the same way in ridding skin of dirt, bacteria and viruses, but differ widely in production and packaging options. Liquid and gel types usually come in plastic bottles, disposal of which has an environmental impact. In addition, “liquid soap requires more energy and resources to produce compared to bar soap,” according to an article on The Good Boutique.
Soap bars, on the other hand, can use recycled paper or cardboard for wraps, wraparound bands and boxes, or bags made from natural fibers such as cotton and hemp. This simple packaging options help reduce plastic waste.
The preference for soap bars also extends to shampoo and pet bath essentials, according to Hyo Chang, a South Korean shampoo bar manufacturer interviewed by Global Sources. The company said that consumers, specifically those in their 20s and 30s, are choosing products that can reduce environmental damage as their social responsibility becomes more mature.
There is also growing demand for handmade soaps. Donggubat Co. Ltd, which specializes in eco-friendly handmade face soap and shampoo bars, said that sales have been nearly doubling every year.

Face soap, with plant extracts, white musk scent

Derma Peace’s Soapsom Plus Wash Bar For Your Face contains various extracts, such as Houttuynia cordata, Camellia sinensis or green tea and Adansonia digitata or baobab fruit, to soothe dry skin, and has an allergen-free white musk scent. It uses surfactants made from naturally derived vegetable oils and has no chemicals that can irritate skin. This soap is wrapped in recycled paper.
