Mobile phone cases made of TPU are popular on the market thanks to the advantages this material offers in terms of shock absorption, wear resistance and ability to maintain its flexibility at low temperatures. TPU combines the best of rubber and other thermoplastics. It is light and soft and can come in various colors. It is also UV-resistant, ensuring color stability.

“TPU cases with better shock absorbing property are preferred in the Korean market. And a lot of demand still exist for pocket and card storage in the Korean market because some users still feel that Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are not quite convenient in some respects,” said Jungwook Choi, the CEO of Ssongsdesign Inc.

In South Korea, TPU phone cases typically have raised bezels, textured grips and wireless charging compatibility. In terms of design, they usually feature graphic patterns applied through UV printing and heat transfer processes, according to Jungwook. There are also designs that feature fictional characters or those created by individual illustrators. The choices extend to cases made of TPU with PC or silicone elements for enhanced properties.

Globally, the mobile phone case market is expected to continue expanding. Grand View Research’s projection is a CAGR of 8.3 percent from 2023 to 2030.
