The type of material and treatment, along with fit, height and thickness, are the things to look out for when sourcing for socks.

A good pair of socks has the right material, treatment, thickness and fit.
The benefits of wearing socks go beyond they comfort they provide. If one is wearing closed footwear, then a good pair of socks is essential. One of the primary reasons for this is hygiene. Wearing socks helps prevent the build-up of microorganisms, which can cause bad odor. Other foot problems, including blisters and athlete’s foot, can stem from wearing close-toe shoes with bare feet.
Socks can also help manage perspiration, given that the feet are among the sweatiest parts of the body with more than 125,000 sweat glands.
For active people, socks can serve as cushioning for the feet while doing strenuous activities. They can help reduce pressure and absorb impact.During cold months, wearing socks keep the feet warm.
So, what makes a good pair of socks? Here are the main factors to consider.
Material: Merino wool is best material for socks as it is breathable, warmth-retentive, quick-drying, and odor- and shrink-resistant. Acrylic is durable and provides good cushioning. Cotton is soft but traps moisture, which can cause blisters.
Thickness: The weight and thickness depend on the season and activity. Cold months and strenuous activity require thick and high-density socks. During summer, thin socks are okay as long as they do not cause blisters.
Treatment: Some fibers have inherent functional properties that do not require treatment. Merino wool is an example. A good pair of socks should allow the feet breathe, and should be skin-friendly and odor-resistant.
Fit: Socks should fit snugly without cramping the toes or allowing extra material to fold, wrinkle, and cause friction. Seams should be flat and should not rub or pinch any part of the feet.
