What started as an alternative choice for religious women searching for more conservative beach apparel, modest swimwear has now captured a wider market.

From older and plus-size ladies who do not like how they look in conventional bathing suits to younger women concerned about being exposed to harmful UV rays, the market for conservative swimwear is growing at a steady pace. According to an article on Wall Street Journal, this resulted in what has become a competitive cottage industry.

The selections are diverse. There are swim dresses that range from knee- to ankle-length. Swim skirts and leggings are likewise popular. For tops, long- and three-quarter sleeve styles are the best-sellers.

Companies are popping up all across the web with the latest designs. Some have even paraded their lines in various swimwear shows. Brooklyn-based Undercover Waterwear, which was started by a Jewish mother and her two daughters, unveiled a series of conservative collection at Miami swimwear shows.

With modest swimwear's popularity going beyond those who are covering up to for religious reasons, the industry is predicted to account for bigger share of the overall swimwear market in coming years.
