Generally available copper wires in China include pure, oxygen-free and copper alloy types with a sectional area ranging from 0.3 to 400sqmm. For the power transmission field, typical variants have 1.5, 2.5, 4, 6 and 10sqmm with load current of 8 to 15, 16 to 25, 25 to 32, 32 to 40 and 60 to 70A, respectively. The other key applications include communication networks, and electric and industrial equipment.
China is the largest base for copper materials, providing domestic wire manufacturers twin advantages of low transportation costs and shorter lead times. This sector reached $160 billion in 2024 and accounted for 42 percent of the global market, according to Fuzhou-based Bosi Data Research Center.
