After missing out on last month's list, genuine leather handbags catapulted back to the upper half of GlobalSources.com's top 20 garments and accessories for September 2014. The category registered more than five-fold ascent in monthly RFIs and a 90 percent jump YoY to secure the 9th spot in the rankings. It last held the number 7 position in the July 2014 listing.

Many of the latest releases come in small sizes and are adorned with appliques, metal trimmings and embossed animal-skin patterns. Some boast hard metal frames while others feature integrated handles.

Two more bag types have locked up spots in the top 10. Daypacks and PU leather handbags retained their sixth and seventh seeding, respectively. On-month buyer inquiries for the former category rose 14 percent while annual figures posted an impressive 1,300 percent gain. Requests for information for PU leather handbags, meanwhile, increased 10 percent. It was not in the rankings last year.
