Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), the country's largest state-owned textile company, has started recently the construction of the Rang Dong Industrial Textile Park in Nghia Hung district in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

The industrial park is set cover a total area of 2,109 hectares and will become the biggest in the Southeast Asia nation. Construction began on April 18 and is divided into three phases. The first of which is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Located 140km from Hanoi, Nam Dinh is home to more than 480 textile enterprises with an estimated workforce of 70,000. The sector’s revenue accounts for 40 percent of the province’s total industrial production value.

Once operational, the industrial park aims to attract both foreign and local investors to Vietnam's apparel and textiles industries. The goal is to produce 1 billion meters of fabrics in 2020 and 1.5 billion meters by 2025.

Wastewater treatment facilities with a daily capacity of 110,000 cubic meters will also be built within the park to meet with environmental regulations.

Vietnam is among the fastest-rising textile hubs in the world, benefitting from various trade agreements with various overseas markets.

Last year, the country imported 5.5 billion meters of fabrics. The government plans to reduce that number and has set a target of increasing domestic textile output from 2.85 billion meters in 2016 to about 18 billion meters by 2025. To achieve this, it has allowed the establishment of several textile industrial parks in different parts of the country, with Nam Dinh being groomed to become the nation's garment and textile center of the north.
