The latest women's kaftans from India boast sharp prints and various embellishments that enhance visual appeal. Pieces that can be worn as tops, tunics, short or full-length dresses, nighties or formal gowns are available.
Designs often depend on the type of occasion the clothing will be worn. Many kaftan tops, for instance, have stripes, paisleys or floral patterns. Other casual wear come in animal, plant or tribal prints. Aquatic motifs, including marine life and waves, are mostly seen in beachwear. Formal tops and dresses have floral or abstract designs, or come in solid colors.
Luxury Dayz International offers farasha kaftans with sublimation digital prints.
Embroidery, sequins, beads and crystals, meanwhile, are the popular trimmings. These are typically placed along the necklines, sleeves, hems or waists. Many formal wear also have fringes and lace. Some feature voluminous ruches.
Daksh International’s selection includes models with contrast color sleeves, hems and necklines. Some have sequins or zari borders.
As regards hues, bright shades of pink, violet, blue, green, orange and yellow are common. Many models also adopt earth tones.
Most women's kaftans from India are made of sheer fabrics such as voile, chiffon, georgette and wrinkled crepe as these are breathable and soft. The weaves also impart a nice drape. Cotton, polyester, rayon, silk and Lycra are the popular materials. Fabrics are often sourced from the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Low-end models use printed polyester. Most are knee-length with short butterfly sleeves, straight hems, drawstring waistbands and round- or V-necks, or Mandarin collars. Some have embroidery or trimmed necklines. Products go for $4.50 to $10.
Priced at $10.50 to $20, midrange releases include tunic tops and dresses in polyester, viscose, rayon or cotton. Kaftans adopting the first material come in georgette, chiffon and satin weaves. Fabrics are sometimes blended with Lycra and spandex. Designs have burn-out textured prints, contrasting tape borders, buttoned plackets, straight or asymmetrical hems, pleated or ruffled chests and elasticated ruches. Necklines, sleeves and fronts are often embellished.
Kaftan dresses and gowns made of silk, satin, polyester and their blends banner the high end. Designs may be digital printed or in solid colors. Voluminous ruches, wrap-style or pleated chests, buttoned fronts, attached lining, lace trimming, extended long sleeves, full-length embroidery, and sequin, bead and crystal detailing along the necklines, sleeves and hems are common. Quotes start at $20.50 and can exceed $100.
