The biggest problem with completely wireless Bluetooth earbuds is that the battery life tends to be very bad. Even high-end wireless earbuds such as Samsung's IconX only last an hour and a half, although they come with a nice carrying case that recharges them while stored. Unfortunately, that means they cannot be used while charging. ELWN is hoping to change that with its Fit Earbuds. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new product, which combines the wireless earbuds design with the neck strap form. The latter has been more associated with Bluetooth earbuds. The strap is removable, but it recharges the device when plugged in. ELWN said the earbuds by themselves get 3.5 hours of battery life and that the band charger extends that by another three hours.

ELWN is a US-based company that makes its headphones in Guangzhou. The company started out designing and manufacturing headphones for other company, but it is now transitioning to an OBM with its Kickstarter campaign. This is a fairly common evolution these days as crowdfunding allows makers to get their names out there.

In this case, ELWN is hoping its uniquely long-lasting earbuds will be enough to generate buzz. The Fit Earbuds are also highly customizable. They come with 48 fit accessories that combine to offer 180 different fit options so any user can find the perfect match for his or her ears. Still, the main attraction is the battery life.

Bluetooth headphones have not had the greatest reputation by tradition. The battery life is a big drawback, but sound quality is also not as great as wired headphones. Simply being wireless, however, offers a big advantage. The largest draw for wireless earbuds that pair with smartphones is that they are more convenient to use while working out. That is why manufacturers have been recently in a race to remove all wires completely, including the neck band that links the earbuds to each other. ELWN has found a unique solution that boosts battery life but gives users the option to leavethe wire at home when going out for a quick run. For now, that design is going to cost people $120 on Kickstarter. Nonetheless, it is a feature that deserves to catch on among other companies.
