Makeblock Co. Ltd has released the world’s first modular drone, which is bundled with a software allowing users to control it from their tablet or computer and create their own flight macros.

The product consists of one master and six detachable power modules. The latter can be put together and formed into a drone using magnets, or placed on the main unit to turn them into a hovercraft. When the drone hits a wall or crashes, the parts can be easily assembled again.

Makeblock is an open-source construction platform, providing mechanical and electronic parts and modules such as beams, plates, connectors, motors, brackets, sensors, drivers and controllers. RadioShack, Barnes & Noble, Studica, Monoprice, Maplin, RobotShop and Smart Products Connection are among the supplier’s major customers.
