World's first smart transformable sofa

The Lift-Bit is an app-controlled sofa that can be configured to form different styles of chairs, loungers and beds, and other landscapes.

Italian design firm Carlo Ratti Associati, in partnership with Vitra, introduced the Lift-Bit, the world's first digitally-transformable sofa at the Milan Design Week.

Each stool comes in a hexagon body that is motorized and uses a linear actuator that allows the seat to be raised or lowered. Using a tablet app, the Lift-Bit can be configured to have different heights. If the couch has been stationary for an extended time, it will automatically go back to its original settings.

Inspired by Cedric Price's Generator Project, the Lift-Bit is equipped with responsive modules that can turn a set of sofas into a custom bed, lounger or chair. It can also take the form of an auditorium or a domestic landscape such as the Grand Canyon.

Lift-Bit is currently in mass production by Makr Shakr.
