Fifty-four percent of all consumers and 63 percent of those 50 years old and above surveyed by the International Food Information Council said they were more health-conscious with their food and beverage choices in 2020 than they were a decade ago. The Council also found that the adults in the US that were surveyed cited immune function, weight management, energy, and digestive and heart health as their motivation for eating healthy.

The eating and cooking habits of consumers has drastically changed since the pandemic started. According to an article by Food Dive, 71 percent of Americans surveyed by consumer market research firm Hunter said they will continue to cook more after the pandemic. This is primarily driven by increased creativity and confidence in the kitchen, and the motivation that at-home cooking saves money, makes people eat healthier and feels good.

As the economy slowly tries to open and vaccinations continue to roll out, current market trends will also be impacted. While disruptions will surely take place, consumers will continue to prioritize health and wellness, and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
