The smart watch revenue is at an all-time high. According to Trading Platforms, sales are expected to grow by about 20 percent and will hit the US$10 billion mark this 2021. In addition, US revenue is estimated to grow at a 7.7 percent CAGR from 2021 to 2025 and will reach US$14 billion by 2025. With the smart watch industry being a lucrative but saturated market, buyers looking to source these devices should consider understanding and choosing their target consumer market based on the features these watches offer:

1. Fitness buffs and health-conscious consumers
Perhaps the most well-known types of smart watch users, these consumers like to maximize the fitness tracking features offered by today's wearables - the monitoring of heart rate, steps travelled, physical activity per sports mode (running, swimming, cycling, and more) calories burned and hours slept. Higher-end models can also measure the maximum rate of oxygen consumption during incremental exercise, plus provide advanced running dynamics data.
Healthwise, certain models have SpO2 sensors that track users' blood oxygen saturation level, which indicates one's respiratory health. This special feature adds another layer of usefulness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Diving deeper into the health aspect, various watches can measure blood pressure and have the Electrocardiogram (ECG) function that enables users to generate a PDF of their heart rhythm that they can share with their doctors. According to CVG Cares, smart watches are also capable of detecting "irregular heartbeat, also known as Atrial Fibrillation or AFib, a health condition that can be a precursor to serious cardiac events and stroke." Although these shouldn't be used as a substitute for EKG machines, heartbeat-enabled smart watches can be a great tool for patients with heart conditions.
2. Visually impaired and senior citizens
A lesser-known feature of GPS-enabled smart watches is that they can aid users when walking in public via vibrations. The Apple Watch, forinstance, uses vibrations to guide a person when to turn right or left. This feature is highly beneficial as a navigation guide for the blind and elderly when they are out in the open. Next, these types of consumers can benefit from the SOS button and fall detection alarm. In case of emergencies, users can press the watch's SOS button, and the device will automatically call 911 and send a text message to the relatives and friends listed as emergency contacts. Likewise, the fall detector function sends an alert to emergency contacts if the user hasn't moved in about a minute.

3. Children
There are now a vast range of suppliers offering smart watches that cater to the young. Children's smart watches have features that include games to entertain them, educational exercises to facilitate learning development, communication options like video and audio call support, and safety attributes like GPS-tracking and an SOS button. These watches come in fun, bright colors and are water-resistant.

4. Tech-savvy millennials and Gen-Z professionals
These two generations like to integrate tech in their everyday lifestyle for utmost convenience. Firstly, digital wallets are among the hottest tech trends, and many smart watches have NFC support, which can be used for contactless payments. Second, they can send text, call and social media notifications, and even support Bluetooth calls, which save users the time to find their phone in their pockets or bags. Entertainment-wise, some smart wearables have music support and also double as TWS earbuds and Bluetooth speakers.
5. Women
Smart watches can be highly useful for women who want to track their menstrual cycle and ovulation period. These devices are also used as a fashion statement by stylish ladies. They come in different colors, shapes and designs. Standout designs include models with rhinestone embellishments. Targeting this market also means the opportunity to source and sell accessories like smart watch bands, cases and screen protectors.
