Amazon is reportedly planning a smart doorbell that lets delivery persons access a home for a limited time. Its prospect partner is said to be smart license frame maker Phrame, which has technology for license frame boxes that can grant one-time access for deliveries to be placed inside car trunks.
The move not only might enhance Amazon’s delivery services, it can also make the company’s smart home game stronger once the product gets widely adopted. Amazon now competes with other brands offering the same features such as Glue from Sweden, or some similar smart locks by August which came earlier, The Verge reports.
As for challenges, US homeowners’ trust in letting delivery people, Amazon-authorized or not, enter their homes is still a major expected factor believed to affect adoption. According to Business Insider, Wal-Mart and Deliv are testing this new type of courier service option and the results could indicate if Amazon’s plan on a delivery access-control doorbell might be successful.
In China, although access for delivery persons is not necessarily a focus, the latest smart doorbells, particularly mobile phone-compatible ones that grant temporary access to owner-authorized people, are increasing and getting popular.
