Philips says yes through Bluetooth and voice control.

It’s time to forget the hub. Smart lights can connect directly to smartphones using only Bluetooth. That’s what Philips’ newest bulbs are showing.

The Philips Hue Bluetooth smart lighting line does not need to rely anymore on a ZigBee hub or the Hue app. They will be controlled by the phone through a simplified Bluetooth app, reports CNET. The lights are also reported to be able to pair with voice assistant Alexa and Google’s Nest devices fast.

While Philips seems to be the frontrunner among the big brands to have both features, there are already Bluetooth LED bulbs from Asia manufacturers that do the same things. China-made app-ready Bluetooth bulbs, for example, also have voice control. They can connect both to Amazon Alexa, Google Home and many other voice assistants.

The difference of Philips’ and Asia brand Bluetooth bulbs, though, comes down to how easy is “easy” on the app side.
