Applications in 5G communication, hybrid networks and industrial automation and M2M will sustain steady growth in demand for coaxial cables despite the widening availability of fiber-optic technology. This is in addition to established uses in cable and satellite TVs, CCTVs and security systems, medical equipment, and space and aviation.
In 2025, the market for this interconnects category is estimated to have reached $34.92 billion from $33.32 billion in the previous year, according to The Business Research Company. The forecast CAGR is 5.5 percent between 2025 and 2029, by which the value is expected to be $43.18 billion at the end of the period. This already includes a 0.2 percent reduction because of higher tariffs. Based on ChinaIRN’s projection, meanwhile, China will have an over 40 percent market share by 2030.
Widely available coaxial cables from Chinese companies are categorized into baseband types with impedance of 50ohms and mainly in RG-8 and RG-58 configurations and wideband versions with 75ohms and in RG-6 and RG-59.
These are made using copper, aluminum foil, PE, PVC, LSZH and other materials sourced domestically or from foreign suppliers, depending on buyers’ preferences.
Although the cost of copper fluctuated slightly in the past 12 months, that of other inputs has remained generally flat. Manufacturers are optimistic that outlay for copper will stabilize in the coming months and keep cable prices at current levels.
