Current transformers are used to measure current in circuitry and ensure it is scaled down to a safe low level. In China, these passive components are available in various specifications to suit requirements in sensors, meters, energy monitoring devices, power supplies and other applications.

In mainstream supply are current transformers with a rated primary current of 0 to 5,000A, primary and secondary ratio of up to 1:2,500, operating frequency of 20 to 400Hz and operating temperature range of -25 to 85 C. They comply with industry safety standards such as UL, CE, IEC and RoHS.

Chinese manufacturers can customize current transformers and, to meet changing requirements, they continue to enhance their capability to make miniaturized types with high sensitivity and stability. These low-profile designs match the latest upgrades in the automotive, smart grid and smart metering sectors.

The main materials used in the production of current transformers are cores, resins, wires and plastic cases. Chinese companies obtain them from domestic providers unless customers require other sources.

In the past 12 months, the cost of these inputs did not fluctuate much, enabling manufacturers to keep the prices of current transformers unchanged. Some lowered their quotes to win more orders. This stability is expected to persist through 2024, according to suppliers interviewed by Global Sources.
