Full-body smart clothing provides real-time feedback to sports enthusiasts

A set of smart clothing that gives a 3D picture of the wearer's full-body movement and provides real-time personalized feedback is making waves in Kickstarter.

Called Enflux, the garment is designed to help athletes and fitness enthusiasts achieve proper exercise form, get better results from the gym, and prevent setbacks and injuries. It consists of an odor-resistant long-sleeved top and pants made of polyester-spandex, and embedded with 10 microsensors in the arms, legs and torso that monitor body movement and transmit the data to a companion smartphone app.

Users can get real-time audio feedback, and after working-out, they can watch a 3D avatar of themselves performing the same exercises while getting detailed information on a range of biometrics, including power, form efficiency, joint rotation angles, balance, velocity and heart rate. Wearers can also send the data to professionals via an online platform, where a coach or trainer can give recommendations.

Currently, Enflux is optimized for weightlifting, running, crossfit, yoga, cycling and a number of team sports. Future versions will track additional sports.

Another advantage of the smart clothing is that it can be machine-washed. The garment is lightweight and stretchable just like other athletic apparel. The top and pants can also be worn separately.

As of April 7, it has raised more than $107,000, surpassing its target of $100,000. It is available at a crowdfunding price of $249. The first models are set to be released March 2017.
