Manufacturers of unisex sunglasses in South Korea are going with the trend for durable, flexible and lightweight TR-90 frames, while keeping the line broad with all-metal and acetate-metal options. Many continue to look for ways to differentiate products and capture market attention.

Second Round Co. Ltd is developing sunglasses that float for water sports enthusiasts, and those with glow-in-the-dark frames for the novelties and accessories segments. Models that allow customization of the temples and frames are on the maker's drawing board as well. In addition, "we are partnering with Skullcandy to combine its earphones with our sunglasses," said sales manager Gi-Log Byun. "We are also collaborating with companies such as New Era and Taiwan designers to expand to new markets."

Sodamon Co. Ltd has a series with high-impact lenses and snug TR-90 frames that will not be easily dislodged, targeting the niche street sports segment. It is working with a lens manufacturer to develop polarized and photochromic lenses for sports sunglasses.
