GaN technology will continue to headline releases of AC/DC adapters as the category keeps moving away from the use of transistors made with silicon semiconductor materials. This shift enables smaller and lighter designs and higher efficiency in devices, boosting demand for them.
The market for GaN AC/DC adapters was estimated to have reached $1.14 billion worldwide in 2024, according to a report from Research Nester. It is forecast to increase further to $1.2 billion in 2025 and $2.46 billion by 2037 at a CAGR of 6.1 percent.
In China, the GaN AC/DC adapter market reached $83 million in 2021 and is forecast to achieve $694 million in 2026, according to AskCI. This upbeat projection is spurring Chinese manufacturers to add more such power supply products to their selections as well as introducing new features. Anker, for instance, has released a series with six USB ports delivering up to 250W and a 2.26in TFT-LCD screen showing each port’s output rating. These adapters can be controlled via an app as well.
Widely available GaN AC/DC adapters from Chinese suppliers have 100 to 240VAC, 50/60Hz input, 5, 9, 12, 15 and 20VDC output voltage and 30, 65, 100 and above rated power ratings. These are made using chips, rectifiers, transistors, transformers, thermistors, other passive components, PCBs and connectors sourced domestically or from foreign companies, and meet CE, UL, EN, BS, CCC and RoHS requirements.
Prices may go down further in the coming months, as more manufacturers release GaN AC/DC adapters and intensify competition in this product category.
