Home interior designers across the globe are making new tile designs and predicting as well the big trends for 2016. Here are some of the tile styles that are expected to dominate this year:
• Mosaic tiles - Diverse shiny patterns in glass and optical illusions make walls playful to the eye. Kansas-based interior design and home remodeling firm Design Connection Inc. foresees 2016 as the “year of the tile” with mosaic glass as one of the leading tile types.
• 3D tiles - Attention-grabbing contours and textures of these tiles add more dimension to walls. Many are made of wood, steel and aluminum and feature wavy edges, embossed geometry and sculpted surfaces. This was listed by Building Design+Construction magazine as one of the big trends seen at Italy ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings exhibition Cersaie which was held last October.
• Street/pop art tiles - Also among the Cersaie exhibition trends, these tiles are becoming a new form of canvas featuring artistic works.
• Wood-, stone-like tiles- With tree marks or wood grains, or a gray natural or cemented finish, these tiles resemble closely real hardwood or reclaimed wood and stone. Many are made of ceramics and come in planks or square variants. Daltile’s 2016 tile trends forecast says that painted types are emerging, with whitewashed and floral styles popular in wood.
• Brick tiles - These tiles help achieve a country home look. Brick tiles can now come in hexagonal and other nontraditional shapes. Many are painted and going retro with a hint of contemporary, but rustic will still be the top choice, according to Daltile.
