One of the benefits of setting up smart home devices is being better able to tell what's happening within the home at different times and locations. This requires sensors, though, and those need to be coordinated through some central system to keep users updated. The latest iHome device called the iSS50 5-in-1 SmarMonitor helps users get started with five sensors for $80.
Like other iHome products, the ISS50 works with Apple's HomeKit, so it can be connected to other HomeKit smart home products. Rules can be set up to keep users notified of changes based on readings from the different sensors for motion, temperature, light, sound and humidity. Examples include notifications for when lights are turned on or when the temperature increases. For users who want to set up a smart home for security reasons, these are good sensors to set up at the beginning. Motion sensor lights, for example, have long been a popular product for home security.
The iSS50 isn't going to blow anyone away as an innovative product. The consolidation of similar technologies is important to wider adoption, though. People who want sensors in their homes have a new simple and affordable option to get started. This is an additional level of security beyond just a security camera.
