The pandemic is far from over. Health experts say the emergence of the virus’ new variants, while it’s not certain how dangerous they are, may compel workplaces worldwide to extend their work-from-home arrangements. With people continuing to shelter in place for longer periods again this year, it’s likely that they are customizing their interiors to create a balance between aesthetic and function. With that in mind, it’s worth taking a look at the interior design trends set to be popular among consumers this year and source the hardware items essential to bring these design schemes to fruition.

Designers predict that fixtures and furniture with primary shades of brown will be popular this year. In a recent Vogue article, professional design expert Athena Calderone says, “Neutrals will take a bit of a back seat in 2022 as people start to experiment with color again, but the palette will stay very close to hues you’d find in nature. We predict paint rollers will be dipped in rosy, terracotta tones, swathing rooms from wall to ceiling for a complete monochromatic moment that envelops you in its coziness.” Along with this trend, the designer also says nature-inspired surfaces and objects are expected to resurge.
This year will also witness an emergence of organic features mixed with modern elements. Austin-based designer Nicole McCall says, “We’ve seen buyers bring in pinecones and crystals as inspiration and ask us to design their home around these items.” Meanwhile, idyllic and industrial materials will create an aesthetic that uses exposed bricks, concrete, dark metals and distressed wood elements.
Recycled tile company LIVDEN founders Georgie Smith and Hilary Gibbs say consumers are looking to buy products manufactured with eco-friendliness in mind. According to them, “In 2022, we predict a surge of colorful and bold sustainable materials and products that will force us to reimagine what sustainable design is and can be.”
