US-based electronics specialist Jabil introduces a wearable sensor that can be woven into fabrics and measure a person's heart rate and other vital signs at the IDTechEx Wearable USA 2015.

Jabil Circuit Inc., a Florida-based electronics services firm and its recently acquired subsidiary Clothing+, joined forces with Finland's technology specialists Suunto and Firstbeat to release a smart garment system that monitors the heart rate and other biometrics at the IDTechEx Wearable USA 2015 in Santa Clara, California last December 2.

The sensor can be woven into fabrics of various athletic apparel, including shirts and sports bras.

Jabil intends to market the smart system to prominent apparel brands that are venturing currently into smart fitness apparel such as adidas, Under Armour, Ralph Lauren and Victoria Secret Sport. It can also be used in the medical field for companies developing e-textile solutions to monitor patient health.

According to a report from IDTechEx, the wearable sensors market is anticipated to explode in the next 10 years with more than 1.5 million units sold by 2025.
