Located on the east coast of China, Jiangsu is an economic powerhouse and a major manufacturing hub.

Though among China’s smallest provinces by land area, Jiangsu has the second-highest total GDP and the top GDP per capita, contributing substantially to the country's economic output. The province’s total GDP was $1.87 trillion in 2024, rising by 5.8 percent over the previous year, with a targeted increase of over 5 percent in 2025, according to China Daily.

In terms of sales revenue, Jiangsu ranked first based on its 2025 target of $833 billion, according to Xinhua Daily. Industries that experienced over 10 percent growth were electronic components and materials, discrete and optoelectronic devices, and semiconductors. Brushless DC motors also posted a double-digit expansion.

Jiangsu has 17 out of China’s 100 best industrial clusters, placing third after Zhejiang and Guangdong, according to consulting firm ExamineChina. But based on advanced manufacturing clusters, China Daily said that it has the most at 14, having secured approval for four new ones in 2024. The province’s main production areas are found in Wuxi, Suzhou, Zhenjiang, Taizhou, Xuzhou, Nanjing, Nantong, Yangzhou, Lianyungang and Changzhou.

Wency Chen wrote in a November 2025 South China Morning Post article, Jiangsu “has successfully nurtured more than 3,000 firms certified as “little giants” – small but highly specialized and innovation-driven companies active in industrial supply chains – that have enabled the nation’s technology self-reliance drive. That number surpasses that of any other Chinese province.”

East China leads

China’s manufacturing sector for brushless DC motors has been posting the highest growth worldwide. Its total market scale reached $2.15 billion in 2015 and $9.41 billion in 2023 for a CAGR of 17.818 percent, according to Huajing Intelligence Network, a platform for industrial economic intelligence and research in Greater China. This trend carried over into 2024 and 2025, driven by demand in consumer electronics, home appliances, automotive, industrial equipment and robotics applications.

Production bases for this category are scattered across the Pearl River Delta and the Yangzte River Delta regions. But the main hubs are in East China, specifically Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and in Guangdong in South China. In 2024, East China had the majority market share of 25 percent based on information from Guangdong-based consulting firm Market Monitor Global.

In Jiangsu, BLDC motor factories are mostly found in Suzhou, Changzhou and Nanjing.

Many manufacturers operate on a small and medium scale and turn out entry-level and midrange units, but the province also plays host to major homegrown suppliers. The latter group includes Jiangsu Leili, Changzhou Duowei, Suzhou Huazhijie, the Hyson Group, Suzhou Kingmot and Jiangsu Wantai. Jiangsu Leili is a tier-one company, which realized a total revenue of $272 million in the first half of 2025 or an increase of 20.71 percent over the same period in the previous year.

Jiangsu-made BLDC motors

Widely available brushless DC motors from Jiangsu manufacturers have rated voltage ranges of 12 to 310V and 12 to 48V for low-power applications and 48 to 310V for high-power uses. The typical speed ratings are 1,800 to 6,000rpm, while the efficiency level is more than 85 percent and the operating temperature range is -20 to 80 C.

There are standard and water-resistant versions, the latter usually at IP65 and above. All motors are UL-listed, CE-marked and RoHS-compliant.

Outer-rotor BLDC motors can also be sourced from Jiangsu. Interviewed companies said that this type, which features a shorter and more compact design owing to its configuration, is broadly adopted in home appliances, drones, robotics, industrial automation, and high-precision instruments and devices.

Suppliers accommodate customization requirements, with orders based on them accounting for 30 to 60 percent of their shipments. They usually use materials, such as permanent magnets, copper, aluminum, insulation materials, wires and cases, sourced from East China’s upstream sector.

Most companies are keeping their prices unchanged despite fluctuations in the cost of copper but are quoting higher for US-bound orders due to the tariffs.

Expansion within and beyond

Confident healthy demand will trump current trade challenges, many companies are planning further expansion.

Jiangsu Bote, a manufacturer specializing in brushless permanent-magnet motors for electric vehicles and with 30 percent share of the market in China, has just completed the second phase of a project. It invested a total of $41.67 million in this 64,000sqm facility, which will be able to produce 1 million motors and 13 million motor components annually when fully operational.

There are also suppliers that have set up factories in Southeast Asia and South America to improve competitiveness. Jiangsu Leili, for instance, has announced investment projects in Malaysia, Vietnam and Mexico, allocating $30 million, $19.3 million and $ 11.79 million, respectively.

Others have shifted marketing efforts to destinations outside the US such as Europe and the Middle East.
