Just for You

Driven by a need to meet the market demand arising from the global shift to sustainable transportation, electric motorcycle manufacturers are upping their game, improving the specs and design of recent models in the hopes of convincing more riders to go green.

Some models from China, for instance, now offer a battery range of 140km per charge, which is more than enough to satisfy the needs of a consumer who rides a motorcycle for commute or leisure. For motorcycle enthusiasts who ride long distances, however, the current range of electric motorcycles probably won't cut it. Nevertheless, newer models offering higher speeds, longer ranges and shorter charging times are welcome options for buyers in the market for competitive e-motorcycle options.

The pros

A key selling point of electric motorcycles and other EVs is their capacity to be charged from renewable sources. In addition to eco-friendliness, riders will find it fascinating that an electric motorcycle can go from 0 to maximum torque and vice versa in an instant, and is able to maintain this torque more consistently than gas-powered motorcycles. Electric motorcycles also have far fewer moving parts – with their main components being the motor, the engine and the controller. As such, fewer trips to the local mechanic are required, often just for parts that wear out quicker such as brakes and tires. Casual riders who like a more relaxed drive will also appreciate that electric motorcycles are a lot quieter than their internal combustion counterparts.

Remarkable market growth

A remarkable CAGR of 10.35 percent from 2019 to 2025 is expected from the global electric motorcycles market, according to a study by Market Research Future. The boost in demand is credited to “depleting oil reserves across world, increasing investments in vehicle charging infrastructure, increasing interest from large scale manufacturers and decline in battery costs.” It also mentions that while lockdowns due to the pandemic have caused a decline in vehicle production, manufacturing is expected to rebound once they are lifted.

Buyers in the automotive industry should be prepared to cater to the demand for electric motorcycles as the economic effects of COVID-19 subside and the market begins to move toward this predicted growth. Some of the most competitive models offered through Global Sources are outlined below.
