US-based industrial sewing machines specialist Merrow Sewing Machine Co. announced recently updates on its ActiveSeam technology that can change the way manufacturers produce compression garments by replacing traditional flatlock seams with a flatter and stronger stitch.
Incorporated in apparel, the new ActiveSeam's flat profile and improved stretch allow comfortable and fluid movements while its construction makes the stitch inconspicuous and unobtrusive even when placed next to the skin.
According to the company, compared with a six-thread flatlock seam adopting an identical yarn or fabric, a two- or three-thread ActiveSeam is more than 30 percent stronger and has double the ability to stretch. These attributes enable garments to fit the body's contours more comfortably without restricting motion.
The new ActiveSeam suits clothing designed to be pressed against the skin such as compression and shapewear. It is produced using the company's latest industrial sewing machine line, the MB-4DFO 2.5 Series, and is set for introduction in at end of the year or early 2018. The machines are currently available for distribution in 87 countries.
