Can you use any Bluetooth controller on the new TV?

Apple's new TV generation can be controlled by a Bluetooth-enabled game controller, like the SteelSeries Nimbus pictured here.

With a new OS and app ecosystem, the latest Apple TV is intended not only as a video player, but also as a gaming device. The recent motion-enabled controller that comes with the Apple TV is just one way to play. One of the launch partners, SteelSeries, spent a year working with Apple to create a controller called the Nimbus that would be the best gamepad to work with the TV.

One of the interesting aspects of the new gamepad, however, is that it is a Bluetooth controller, and requires no other way to connect to the TV. While the Nimbus is clearly optimized for the said Apple device, it is also just a Bluetooth gamepad familiar to any user.

This means that any gamepad with Bluetooth should be compatible with the Apple TV. For example, the current generation PS4 controller is Bluetooth-capable, and may be able to connect. Essentially, every Bluetooth-enabled controller will be at least minimally fit to the new TV.
